Many of the houses for sale in this part of the city are located in areas that are quite conducive to those who travel by foot, although common amenities such as barbers or banks can be an occasionally long walk away. Townsite is very car friendly. It is easy to come across a place to park. However, the public transit system in this part of the city is fairly poor. Nonetheless, there are a few bus lines passing through the neighbourhood, and bus stops are not very far from most houses.
In Townsite, parents and their children will typically be able to access primary schools and daycares on foot. In contrast, Townsite does not contain any high schools. At the elementary level, there are both public and private schools. When it comes to food, it is very often possible for house buyers in this area to purchase their groceries by walking. Likewise, a coffee shop is typically a reasonably short stroll away, and residents of Townsite are served by a few restaurants as well.
People who prefer a slower-paced environment will enjoy Townsite. The majority of locations within the neighbourhood have fairly good access to green spaces, including Bowen Park, since there are a few of them nearby for residents to visit. This part of Nanaimo is also reasonably quiet, as there are low levels of noise from traffic - although that is not the case close to the railway line.
